New folks who are struggling with jiu-jitsu. There’s never a shortage of them. Well, if you’ll sit a spell and keep an open mind, I’ll do my best to help out.
First things first. Defining what we’re even doing. Jiu-jitsu is a Japanese term that translates to “the gentle art”. Let’s not forget that. To leave that out means we’re abandoning the principle philosophy of our chosen art.
Through the philosophy of jiu-jitsu, our goal is to use our body as a tool to produce the desired results of an unarmed combat scenario with as much efficiency as possible.
I’m going to be putting out a few posts here on how we can do just that, allowing us as practitioners to bring the focus of our efforts back to the main thing.
Exercise 1 is to keep that definition in mind. Results with as little effort as possible. Take a look at your current training and ask yourself if that’s what you’re practicing. If you’re having lots of frustrations, it’s probably not. If you’re constantly looking for attribute-based answers to your grappling problems, it’s probably not.
Stay tuned.
Take care of yourself.
